College students are sometimes expected to spend spring break in Daytona Beach or in a crowded beach in Cancun, but sometimes the reality is that your bank account is worth as much as a plane ticket to Miami or Mexico. When that happens and remaining in Dallas is your only option, it doesn’t mean that you will have to lock yourself in your house and binge watch your spring break away; there is still ways you can go out and do different things to have fun this week.

Dallas is not a very busy or cheap city to go out, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t fun and interesting things to do that do not require a lot of money. Let’s start with the basic:

Top sights: museums, zoo and aquarium

If you haven’t already gone to either of these places because you were taught it was expensive or not worth your time, well, let me tell you it’s really not expensive at all and its worth it. The Museum of Art in Uptown Dallas is completely free, and if you’re into art there are always new exhibitions and art pieces showing there. The aquarium and the Museum of Natural Science are both $20, so either you enjoy innovations and science or marine life exhibits this are good places to go. Finally, the Dallas Zoo really holds many different species of animals in amazing structure habitats, you can go to safari space and feel in Africa or feed the giraffes and goats. The zoo is only $14 dollars which is a good price for the amazing animals it holds.

Cirque du Soleil

The most famous and extravagant circus is in town for spring break and you probably may be thinking “that’s probably a $100, I ain’t paying for that.” And you’re right. That’s the price for the best seat, but you don’t have to get the best seat though. The cheapest tickets are from $35 to $48 and even though you are far away and on the sides of the stage, what most people don’t know is that it’s actually better because of the nature of the show and the big, elaborate acts. You don’t want to be too close or you won’t see anything.

Deep Ellum Bars

Deep Ellum really does feel like a different world inside of Dallas. Its art and bohemian vibes are good when you want a different environment and people. From rooftops to southern music bars you have a lot to choose from. If you don’t have enough money to take a road trip to New Orleans, the bar The Free Man will make you feel like you are already there. Most weekends the bar has different jazz bands and a very typical Louisiana menu with dishes full of color and spices. They also serve the famous New Orleans’ drink The Hurricane and beers from Louisiana, it’s a different experience you don’t want to miss. To make it even better, the entrance its free.

Coyote drive-in Fort Worth

If you’re going for different and you enjoy old-school things to do, then this drive-in movie theater is for you. The Coyote drive-in is very popular in Fort Worth and you can just park your car and enjoy whatever current movie that is up on theaters. The best part is that is only $6. If you were thinking of an original date with your s/o, then you’re welcome, drive, park and watch.

Six Flags promotions

Six flags always gives ton of offers for spring break and St. Patrick’s day, and this year is no different. A regular ticket is usually like $75, and they’ve gone down to $56. It’s not as cheap as one would hope for, but and offer is an offer, right? Besides it’s something you can spend a whole day doing since it opens until it closes.

There are many other things to do in Dallas you just need to know where to find it. If you’re sad that your friends are snapchatting from a beach having a blast don’t worry, next year will be your year. For now, enjoy what the fun yet not as expensive activities Dallas has to offer you this year and spring break it till’ you make it.
